PASIR PUTEH (Bernama): The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Company (MMEA) recorded the seizure of sources belonging to international fishermen worth nearly RM700mil from 2019 to final month at some level of its operations codenamed Op Naga and Op Kuda Laut.
MMEA director-total Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som (pic) said the complete seizure fervent the worth of boats, auction of catches, fines and compound notices.
“By means of Op Naga, MMEA has seized 303 boats with a complete seizure label of RM445mil, including boats and auction proceeds,” he instructed journalists after an legit seek advice from to the MMEA Kelantan Vessel Detention Centre here Monday (Oct 4).

He said for Op Kuda Laut, a complete of 149 boats were seized with a complete label of RM224mil whereas a complete of 1,516 international fishing crewmen were detained.
“Since the institution of MMEA, I expect of billions of ringgit worth of seizures interesting international fishermen were made. What I will sum up is that 90% of the boats that had encroached the country’s waters belonged to Vietnamese fishermen,” he added.
Zubil also entreated native fishermen to cooperate by channelling knowledge to curb the encroachment of international fishermen. – Bernama
